Attorney Dan Zimberoff

Dan Zimberoff is a combat veteran and experienced trial attorney, having taken over 60 trials to verdict. He began his legal career working for an insurance defense firm and gained invaluable experience in how insurers defend cases. In 1999, he switched sides of the “v.” and began representing plaintiffs. In addition to civil litigation, he spent two years as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney.

For the past 15 years, Dan has focused his practice primarily on two areas of law: HOA/Condo law and construction defect litigation. Utilizing his former insurance defense and prosecutorial trial experience, he is a strong advocate for his homeowner clients. He also acts as a mediator and arbitrator of community association conflicts.

Dan’s philosophy is to first try to resolve his clients’ disputes through comprehensive preparation and reasonable negotiation, but if that strategy fails, be fully prepared to litigate the claims or defenses to the fullest extent of the law.

Dan is a Gulf War veteran and graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (“Top Gun”). He retired from military service in 2011 as a Captain in the Navy Reserves. In 2015, Dan was granted a fellowship into the prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers, one of less than 150 attorneys in the nation with the designation.

As a newly liberated empty-nester, when not in the courtroom or office, Dan can be found surfing, cycling, playing hockey, or otherwise enjoying the Southern California lifestyle with his fiancé Juli.

Attorney Mary Goodhue Deutsch

A principal attorney in the law firm of Zimberoff Deutsch, APC, obtained her undergraduate education at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, from which she graduated in 1976 with degrees in English and Psychology. She received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1980, and was awarded the George Hickman, Jr. award as the outstanding constitutional law scholar of her graduating class.

Ms. Deutsch is an experienced litigation and trial attorney. Between 1985 and 1988, while working for an established San Diego litigation firm, she represented the plaintiff in a $44 million federal anti-trust suit filed in Federal Court in Anchorage, Alaska. Between 1988 and 1991, she represented national insurance carriers in multi-million dollar insurance coverage disputes, which included several lengthy jury trials. In 1991, she represented the plaintiff in connection with an insurance bad faith claim, in which the court rendered a $1.9 million verdict in favor of her client.

In 1991, Ms. Deutsch joined the community association law firm of Epsten & Grinnell as a senior litigation attorney. She handled numerous construction defect litigation matters, and served as lead counsel for homeowners associations in several jury and bench trials. Ms. Deutsch also handled innumerable litigation matters involving homeowners associations, including governing documents enforcement litigation, assessment collections, judicial foreclosures, and defending Boards of Directors in a broad range of claims including alleged discrimination, labor code violations, personal injury and property damage, and breach of fiduciary duty claims.

In 1999, Ms. Deutsch established her own community association legal practice representing homeowners associations, with the majority of her clients being individual homeowners dealing with issues involving their rights and duties as members of HOA communities. In 2018, Ms. Deutsch and Daniel Zimberoff formed Zimberoff Deutsch, APC. Ms. Deutsch has been an active member of the San Diego and Greater Inland Empire chapters of the Community Associations Institute and the California Association of Community Managers, and a former Editor of the Community Association News.

When not in the office or courtroom, Ms. Deutsch enjoys riding her bicycle, motoring on her boat or skiing down a powder mountain.
